Toulmin Foundation Orchestral Commissions Program, a partnership with American Composers Orchestra, is comprised of a national commissioning initiative featuring multiple orchestra consortiums and a separate nationwide repeat performance initiative. In existence for more than a decade, the program seeks to increase the programming of works by women and nonbinary composers on orchestra stages. The program is designed to positively impact the gender diversity of repertoire played by American orchestras, supporting artistic vibrancy and ensuring that creative opportunity is available to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third national consortium of the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation Orchestral Commissions Program was announced in 2025, featuring three new commissions by composers Stacy Garrop, Angel Lam, and Leanna Primiani, for full-length, 25- to 30-minute concert works. World premieres and repeat performances of the new works by a consortium of nine orchestras will occur during the 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons. The composer-orchestra pairings are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Stacy Garrop and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra (IN)<\/strong> (lead orchestra); Johnstown Symphony Orchestra (PA); Lexington Philharmonic (KY)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Angel Lam and Quad City Symphony Orchestra (IA)<\/strong> (lead orchestra); Columbus Symphony (OH); Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra (GA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leanna Primiani and ROCO (TX)<\/strong> (lead orchestra); Symphony of the Rockies (CO); Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WV)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A newly-established repeat performances initiative will support additional presentations of previously commissioned works by the 16 composers from the original 2014-2019 cohort of program participants. Toulmin Foundation Orchestral Commissions Program is an initiative of the League of American Orchestras, in partnership with American Composers Orchestra (ACO) and supported by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its inception in 2014, the Virginia B. Networking, mentoring, career development, and community engagement opportunities are built into the program, and the composer cohort meets annually at the League\u2019s National Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program is linked to EarShot, an initiative of American Composers Orchestra in collaboration with American Composers Forum, the League of American Orchestras, and New Music USA. Toulmin Foundation Orchestral Commissions Program is an initiative of the League of American Orchestras, in partnership with American Composers Orchestra and supported by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. The program seeks to increase the programming of works by women and nonbinary composers on orchestra stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Networking, mentoring, career development, and community engagement opportunities are built into the program. Orchestras participating in the consortium demonstrate a commitment to engaging the composers in rehearsals, networking opportunities, and education or community engagement activities, and orchestras
