Almost 50 participating orchestras also receive real-time access to an interactive dashboard for analyzing and patron trends. Read the latest findings and learn more below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" id=\"insightsjan2025\"><h2 id=\"at-182930\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\"><strong>League Insights: 2025 Season Wrap-Up<\/strong><\/h2><div id=\"ac-182930\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p><em><em>These aggregated findings provide an indicative overview of patron behavior during the 2024-25 orchestra season, based on data from 48 medium and larger budget League member orchestras.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our September 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/20299118.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net\/hubfs\/20299118\/LOAO\/LOAO%20Sept%20Webinar%20Edited%20Final.mp4\"><strong>presentation of the full data set<\/strong><\/a> includes year-on-year trends and inflation-adjusted figures.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Overall Ticket Sales and Revenue<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Orchestra ticket sales and revenue trends continued their post-pandemic trajectory this season:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Orchestras continued to outperform the wider performing arts sector, with total ticket sales up 6% and total revenue (not adjusted for inflation) up 23% between the 2022-23 and 2024-25 seasons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The average number of tickets per order continued to fall (by 6% between the 2022-23 and 2024-25 seasons).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, orchestras continued to attract new ticket-buyers, with the total number of customer households growing by 14% between 2022-23 and 2024-25.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Single Ticket Sales and Revenue<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Post-pandemic <strong>single-ticket sales trends <\/strong>also continued this season, with single-ticket sales driving revenue growth, and average spend per ticket again increasing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sales rose 9% in volume and 27% in non-inflation-adjusted revenue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most single-ticket buyers attended only once per season, indicating potential for orchestras to increase frequency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Subscription and Membership Sales and Revenue<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Subscription and membership sales and revenue<\/strong> strengthened during the same time period (with early 2025\u201326 season results showing still stronger gains).\u00a0 In the 2024-25 season:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The volume of tickets sold within subscription and membership packages increased by 4%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-inflation-adjusted revenue from subscription and membership packages rose by 11%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Ticket Buyer Demographics<\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There was very little improvement in racial diversity between the 2022-23 and 2024-25 seasons.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The share of millennial single ticket buyers continued to grow (from 26% to 29%), as the proportion of silent generation and baby boomer ticket buyers declined.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Individual Giving<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The long-term trend toward a broadening national base of support for orchestras continued, with the number of individual gifts rising 10% between the 2022\u201323 and 2024\u201325 seasons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revenue from these gifts grew by 6%, but was tempered by a 4% decline in average gift size, as the number of gifts from older, wealthier patrons declined.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While orchestras experienced more modest growth in individual giving during the period 2022-23 and 2024-25 than before the pandemic, this upward trend remained notably stronger than the 9% decline in individual giving revenue seen across the broader performing arts sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em><em><em><em>Within this national picture, every individual orchestra has its own unique story to tell.&nbsp; Nonetheless, increased spend per ticket produced a 24% increase in single ticket revenues during this time period.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While every orchestra\u2019s experience is different, <strong>there is no evidence of ticket buyers making their purchases closer to the concert date during the 2024 season than in the 2019 season.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The dynamic between affinity, loyalty and purchasing is changing.<\/strong>&nbsp; While the proportion of new ticket buyers returning the following season decreased between the 2019 and 2023 seasons, the proportion returning after a three-year absence increased. Understanding that a buyer may consider themselves loyal despite no purchases over multiple seasons raises important questions about the definition of \u201clapsed\u201d and how best to reactivate those in that category.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong><strong>Individual Giving <\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Between the 2019 and 2024 seasons, revenue from individual donations fell by 11%. <\/strong>At the same time,<strong> the total number of gifts increased by 8%,<\/strong> indicating a broadening base of support for orchestras\u2019 work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The donor base is becoming younger<\/strong>. From 2019 to 2023, the percentage of gifts from Gen X patrons grew from 21% to 25%, and those made by Millennials grew from 9% to 14%. Within this national picture, every individual orchestra will have its own unique story to tell.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The proportion of tickets sold to Asian, Black and Hispanic audience members in 2023 only slightly surpassed that of 2019. <\/strong>For many orchestras, there is an opportunity to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/americanorchestras.org\/learn\/audience-engagement\/audience-diversification-resources\/\"><strong>build a more racially diverse audience<\/strong><\/a>, by creating strong community partnerships, programming responsively, and by ensuring that the audience experience they offer is welcoming to all.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><strong>Ticket revenue has now risen significantly above pre-pandemic levels<\/strong>, <\/strong>following an acceleration during 2023. Offsetting ongoing concerns about rising expenses, ticket revenue was 32% higher in 2023 than it had been in 2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>This revenue increase is largely attributable to ticket buyers spending more per ticket: <\/strong>while revenue increased by 32% between 2019 and 2023, paid attendance increased by only 2%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Holiday programming is a more significant revenue driver than ever, post pandemic. <\/strong>Holiday concert revenue grew by a remarkable 52% between 2021 and 2023, with growth accelerating each year. Notably, the year-round trend towards higher spend per ticket is particularly accentuated during the Holiday season.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While every orchestra\u2019s experience is different, <strong>there is no evidence of ticket buyers making their purchases closer to the concert date in 2023 than in 2019<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In 2023, new ticket buyers made up 40% of all sales, compared to 36% in 2019.<\/strong> This presents a significant opportunity for many orchestras to cultivate loyalty within this new audience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The percentage of ticket buyers returning after a three-year absence increased from 2% in 2019 to 8% in 2023. <\/strong>Orchestras\u2019 ability to reactivate lapsed audiences and turn them into more regular purchasers is a significant opportunity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As the trend towards single-ticket purchasing gains momentum, <strong>there has been a notable increase in the percentage of tickets bought by younger patrons.<\/strong> Between 2019 and 2023, the proportion of tickets purchased by Millennial buyers surged from 9% to 25%, while those purchased by Gen X rose from 20% to 31%, nearly matching the percentage bought by Boomers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Between 2019 and 2023 individual donation revenue fell by 23%. <\/strong>This decline was primarily driven by a drop in the proportion of larger gifts from donors aged 79 and above, which decreased from 23% to 16% of all gifts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The donor base is growing and becoming younger<\/strong>. Despite the decline in donation revenue the total number of gifts increased by 8%, indicating a broadening base of support for orchestras\u2019 work. Following a gradual recovery since 2021, orchestra ticket revenue was 1% higher in Jan-June 2023 than in Jan-June 2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ticket buyers are spending more on average per ticket, although fewer tickets are being sold overall<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Overall, new audience members now account for 62% of orchestra ticket buyers, compared to 50% in 2019<\/strong>.&nbsp; Many orchestras have an opportunity to build loyalty within a fresh audience, both from these new visitors and from lapsed ticket buyers returning to concerts for the first time since the pandemic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The percentage of tickets purchased by younger patrons, as well as those with lower incomes and levels of educational attainment, has increased as the trend towards single ticket purchasing has gathered pace.&nbsp;<\/strong>However, while Gen X and Millennial audiences now account for a greater percentage of ticket purchases than they did before the pandemic, <strong>older ticket buyers are leaving faster, resulting in a net loss<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The proportion of tickets sold to Asian and Hispanic audience members was only slightly higher in 2022 than in 2019, and the proportion of tickets sold to Black audience members did not increase at all.<\/strong> &nbsp;For many orchestras, there is an opportunity to <a href=\"https:\/\/americanorchestras.org\/learn\/audience-engagement\/audience-diversification-resources\/\"><strong>build a more racially diverse audience<\/strong><\/a>, by building strong community partnerships, programming responsively, and creating a welcoming audience experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Individual donation revenue decreased by 4% between 2019 and 2023, and the demographic diversity of individual donors has remained static.&nbsp; <\/strong>However, many orchestras are seeing a broadening base of community support, with <strong>more individuals making donations so far in 2023 than in 2019, albeit at a lower level.&nbsp; <\/strong>Orchestras have an opportunity to address the individual donor revenue gap by furthering the engagement of their newly acquired donors, and by listening and responding to the interests of a diverse range of new prospects in their own communities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Results are representative only of the 40+ (mainly medium and large budget) League member orchestras currently participating in the TRG Arts &amp;
