As a champion of new music, he has commissioned and performed dozens of works by American composers from an extraordinary array of stylistic influences. Laing sees opportunities for orchestras to develop if they tap into more of the creative abilities and ambitions of their musicians, and he imagines a wider range for how orchestras define themselves and their work. Central to the core of her message, Le\u00f3n will explore the importance of rebuilding the bridge between the music of North and Latin America and how the interplay of cultures expands creative
