The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/06\/restricting-the-entry-of-foreign-nationals-to-protect-the-united-states-from-foreign-terrorists-and-other-national-security-and-public-safety-threats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>proclamation<\/strong><\/a> creates a two-tiered travel ban that will go into effect 12:01am Eastern, June 9, 2025. Full restriction\u00a0and limitation of entry will be imposed on nationals of Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Partial restriction and limitation of entry will go into effect for nationals of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.\u00a0<br><br>Orchestras, along with the wider arts sector, engage international artists from across the globe in performances that reflect and expand cultural traditions, spark\u00a0new artistic partnerships, and fuel\u00a0international diplomacy\u00a0and local economies. \u00a0<br><br>The League hosts the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artistsfromabroad.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Artists from Abroad website<\/strong><\/a> and has posted a <a href=\"https:\/\/artistsfromabroad.org\/site\/news\/administration-issues-travel-ban-060525\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>dedicated news alert<\/strong><\/a> describing the full impact of the ban. The League will continue to provide advocacy, <a href=\"https:\/\/americanorchestras.org\/visa-and-tax-how-to\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>direct assistance<\/strong><\/a>, and further news to support ongoing international cultural activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nea\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Bipartisan House Letter Calls for Reinstatement of NEA Grants<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Congressional Arts Caucus Co-Chairs Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-ME) and Congressman Mike Turner (R-OH) led more than 120 of their colleagues in urging the Administration to restore National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grant funding approved by Congress. The bipartisan message was delivered in response to a wave of grant terminations issued for projects that had been awarded.\u00a0In addition to canceling projects supported by NEA funds already appropriated by Congress, the President has proposed\u00a0eliminating the agency entirely\u00a0in the FY26 budget.\u00a0<br><br>See the<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pingree.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/final_-_to_potus_urging_reversal_of_nea_grant_cancellations.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>full text of the letter<\/strong><\/a>, which states, \u201cMany grantees are anchors in their communities, whether as employers and educators, prominent Main Street destinations, and tourist attractions. Learn more in the League\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/americanorchestras.org\/learn\/development-fundraising\/nea-funding\/nea-funding-opportunities\/tips-for-your-nea-grant-application\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>NEA Grantmaking Overview<\/strong><\/a> and our <a href=\"https:\/\/americanorchestras.org\/learn\/advocate\/contact-congress-today\/?vvsrc=%2Fcampaigns%2F44585%2Frespond\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>NEA Advocacy Campaign<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"publicmedia\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Public Media Funding Faces Serious Threat in Rescission Request<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Administration has requested that Congress revoke funding already approved for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, following a May 1 executive order, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/05\/ending-taxpayer-subsidization-of-biased-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Biased Media<\/strong><\/a>\u201d that called for the elimination of funding for National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). \u00a0<br><br>Congress has 45 days to act on the\u00a0request, which is part of a broader \u201crescissions\u201d package that seeks to cut more than $9 billion in federal spending, including foreign aid funding.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>Orchestras have partnered closely with public radio and television in communities large and small to bring music programming to countless new audiences.
